gmapsupp.img is the map file which is recognized by Garmin GPS devices. This map file can be transferred into the Garmin GPS devices and you can view the map using the GPS devices.
But, how these maps were created? Definately if you download the free maps from my collection (thanks to malsingmaps.com), you need to convert the files to gmapsupp.img before you can transfer to Garmin GPS devices. This can be done using a small software called sendmap. [Read More…]

I believe many of us already heard of Google Map. Whenever we want to find direction, directly we gonna go to Google Map. We are lucky enough because Internet is a necessity nowadays. But, what happen if the internet is down or we are in out of reach area?
Let me introduce you to a navigation software called Garmin MapSource. This software is actually supplied together if you buy selected model of Garmin GPS Receivers, but this software is available to be downloaded from Garmin Website. First time, I used this software when I bought a Garmin etrex Vista Cx back in the year 2006. During that time, Google Map still does not have the capability to provide turn by turn for my beloved country, Malaysia. However, I was really impressed when MapSource is able to provide me turn by turn from a point to another point. In fact, this software has helped me and my friends a lot in finding directions and routes in some familiar and unfamiliar areas.
Before I proceed to the comparison between Google Map and MapSource, you may visit my dedicated page for gps to help you on MapSource Installation with Malaysia map. If you interested to install map for other countries, you may visit Garmin website.
As a comparison, I gonna make a route from Suria KLCC (Twin-tower tallest in the world) to KL Pavilion (Shopping Complex) using both MapSource and Google Map. [Read More…]
